*RSVP deadline extended until 10/23
Established in 1877, the RISD Museum is Rhode Island’s leading art museum, housing a permanent collection of 100,000 works of art and design including paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, furniture, and costumes from across the globe. A docent will guide us through the highlights of this collection.
Exhibitions during our visit include: Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to Now, from the British Museum; Alter States: Etching in Late 19th Century Paris; and Designing Traditions Biennial V: Student Explorations in the Asian Textile Collection, which highlights new work by RISD students studying Asian textiles and clothing in the museum’s collection.
Our next stop will be the Providence Art Club. Founded in 1880, the Art Club has long been a place for artists and patrons of the arts to create, congregate, display, and circulate works of art. The Art Club is located on historic College Hill, and is housed in a picturesque procession of four historic buildings: The Club House, The Seril Dodge House, The Deacon Edward Taylor House, and The Fleur de Lys Building. These historic buildings feature an active clubhouse, studios, and galleries.
A lunch of vegetable frittata with mixed green and fresh fruit salads will be served upon arrival, followed by dessert with tea or coffee. After lunch we will take a guided tour of the Art Club buildings and galleries featuring art from the Members’ Exhibition. Please note we will be walking very short distance between rows of buildings on an incline, and the sidewalk is historic brick with an uneven surface.
$123; $113 Members; includes transportation, admission, guided tours, lunch, and gratuities.
