Hudson River School

The Wadsworth Atheneum’s Hudson River School collection, part of the museum’s American Art collection, includes over 65 landscape paintings by the movement’s noteworthy artists such as Thomas Cole, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt. The collection was formed by the museum’s founder Daniel Wadsworth, along with Elizabeth Colt and other 19th century art patrons who collected and commissioned works directly from the artists.
